Confidential

This residential extension and renovation project reimagines an existing family home, pool house, and garage with a contemporary architectural language while carefully respecting the character and scale of the original property. The proposal increases the overall footprint from 392sqm to 481sqm — a modest 23% expansion that occupies only 0.16% of the wider site.

The design introduces a series of carefully integrated extensions that enhance both functionality and spatial flow. The pool house has been extended by 23sqm at single-storey level, creating improved circulation and a more flexible relationship with the indoor pool area while remaining aligned with the existing garage and pool house facades. At the front elevation, a refined entrance extension adds 16sqm to accommodate a new entrance lobby, cloakroom, and storage space, subtly recessed to preserve the hierarchy of the original façade.

A new two-storey south-facing extension contributes an additional 47sqm, providing expanded internal accommodation without projecting beyond the existing rear building line. The extension is intentionally set back from the south-west façade to maintain the balance and proportions of the existing architecture.

Materially, the project evolves the home’s original Tudor-inspired appearance into a cleaner, contemporary composition. While the upper levels retain the existing white render, the ground floor introduces a rich palette of vertical timber cladding, natural stone, and rendered surfaces to create warmth and texture. The roofscape has also been modernised, replacing the original clay-coloured tiles with elegant grey slate, while preserving the established pitched-to-flat roof arrangement.

The result is a carefully balanced transformation that enhances the home’s usability, light, and architectural identity while remaining sensitive to its existing form and setting.

This project was delivered during my time at Axis Mason architectural practice, where I played a key role in its development. The work shown reflects my direct involvement and contribution, while also acknowledging the collaborative nature of the wider project team. It is shared here for portfolio purposes only and does not imply sole authorship or ownership of the overall project.
