The proposed pool house is conceived as a composition of interlinked volumes, carefully orchestrated to respond to the site’s natural topography. Embedded within the existing terrain, the building presents a restrained profile when viewed from the main house, preserving established sightlines and the primacy of the surrounding landscape. As the ground gently falls away, the architecture subtly unfolds, allowing internal volumes to expand in scale and height in direct response to their function.

This intentional progression of space is expressed externally through a series of stepped forms, each element articulated to follow the site’s gradient. The overall mass is deliberately fragmented into three distinct yet cohesive components, reducing visual impact while reinforcing a sense of rhythm and hierarchy across the scheme.

Materially, the palette is both robust and contextually attuned. Green roofs extend the language of the landscape across the architecture, softening the building’s presence and enhancing biodiversity, while natural timber cladding introduces warmth and tactility. Together, these elements ensure the pool house and gym are not perceived as impositions, but as a considered extension of their setting, anchored in place, understated in form, and enduring in character. The materials will settle into their environment, responding the environment and developing a site specific patina that will continue to develop for years to come.

This project was delivered during my time at Turner and Hoskins architectural practice, where I played a key role in its development. The work shown reflects my direct involvement and contribution, while also acknowledging the collaborative nature of the wider project team. It is shared here for portfolio purposes only and does not imply sole authorship or ownership of the overall project.
